ALLOCOSA BRASILIENSIS

It is a nocturnal wolf spider that lives in the coastal sands of Uruguay.
Es una araña lobo nocturna que habita en los arenales costeros de Uruguay.

This animal measures 1.5 centimeters of body size.
Este animal mide entra 1.5 centimetros de tamaño coorporal.

It lives on sandy shores and its reproductive peak is in summer time.
Esta vive en costas arenosas y su pico reproductivo es el verano.

This spider prefers to copulate with young, virgin and wide-belly couples to increase their chances of producing more offspring.
Esta araña prefiere copular con parejas jovenes, virgenes y con el vientre ancho para aumentar sus posibildades de producir una mayor descendencia.

The first egg sac of a female is the one that contains more off-springs (about 180), from then on the number decreases. This is why the older spiders are no longer attractive to males and run the risk of being eliminated to favor copulation with the most inexperienced.
El primer saco de huevos de una hembra es el que contiene mas crias (unas 180), a partir de ese momento la cifra decrece. Es por esto que las aranas mayores dejan de resultar atractivas a los machos y corren el riesgo de ser eliminadas para favorecer la copula con las mas inexperimentadas.

Unlike the common among the spiders, the males are larger than the females.
A diferencia de los comun entre las arañas, los machos son mas grandes que las hembras.

In this species the male stays in his burrow and waits for the females to parade there to court him.
En esta especie el macho se queda en su madriguera y espera a que las hembras desfilen por alli a cortejearle.

The male can correspond that interest or not.
El macho puede corresponder este interes o no.

If romance goes on, she enters the cave and places herself under the male and copulate.
Si el romance sigue adelante, ella entra en la cueva y se coloca bajo el macho y copulan.

When the act culminates, the male retires from the scene and seals the entrance of the burrow leaving the female behind.
Cuando el acto culmina, el macho se retira de la escena y sella la entrada de la guarida dejando a la hembra atras.

In it's retirement, she will lay the eggs and will not leave until a month later, when she leaves with her little babies on her back.
En su retiro, ella pondra los huevos y no saldra hasta un mes mas tarde, cuando se marche junto a sus pequeñas crias a la espalda.

The reproductive success in females depends on their sexual status and their body condition.

The coastal areas where this spider inhabits are characterized by strong winds, drastic variations in temperature between day and night, very few refuges and high variations in abundance of prey.
Las areas costeras donde habita esta araña se caracterizan por presentar fuertes vientos variaciones drasticas de la temperatura entre el dia y la noche, muy escasos refugios y altas variaciones en abundancia de presas.

In this environment, the male spends a lot of time in his refuge waiting for females visits.
En ese entorno, el macho pasa mucho tiempo en su refugio esperando a as visitas de las hembras.
It has no prey. Barely feeds and encounters a companion with little chance of providing a great offspring.
No tiene presas. Apenas se alimenta y se encuentra con una companera con pocas probabilidades de brindarle una gran descendencia.

If male waits a little longer, maybe he will be able to copulate with a virgin couple that will lay more eggs.
Si el macho espera un poco mas quizas consiga copular con una pareja virgen que pondra mas huevos.

It has hungry and after all,digging that deep cave has cost him a lot of effort.
Tiene hambre y despues de todo, cavar esa profunda cueva le ha costado mucho esfuerzo.

The male could mate with that older female or feed on it and obtain nutrients that help him cope with the expectation of a better partner.
El macho podria aparearse con esa hembra mayor o alimentarse de ella y obtener nutrientes que le ayuden a sobrellevar la espera de una pareja mejor.

On the other hand females take risks because they are bad excavators and require deep caves to carry out their successive egg laying-about four per reproductive period.
Por otro lado las hembras se arriesgan porque son malas excavadoras y precisan de cuevas profundas para realizar sus sucesivas puestas de huevos-unas cuatro por periodo reproductivo-.

The older one risk that attack of the demanding males because they already assured themselves in the past the success of their first laying.
