Esta habita en todo el Uruguay.

It inhabits in all Uruguay.

Habita en matorrales, bosques y jardines.

It lives in bushes, forests and gardens.

Su nombre Mariposa del Mburucuya se debe a que esta se alimenta del polen y el nectar y ademas deposita sus huevos en la planta trepadota Mburucuya.

Its name Butterfly of Mburucuya is due to the fact that it feeds on pollen and nectar and also lays its eggs on the climbing plant Mburucuya ( Passiflora caurelea).

Mide aproximadamente unos 7 cm de largo.

It is approximately 7 cm long.

Es de color anaranjado con bordes negros.

It is orange in color with black edges.

Estas confunden a sus depredadores con unas manchas que cuando les da el sol, reflejan colores brillantes, estas manchas estan en el lado ventral de las alas.

These confuse their predators with some spots that when the sun hits them, reflect bright colors, these spots are on the ventral side of the wings.

Tiene 2 pares de alas membranosas.

It has 2 pairs of membranous wings.

Su cuerpo esta cubierto por pequeñas escamas.

Its body is covered by small scales.

Esta presenta metamorfosis completa.

La hembra pone los huevos sobre las hojas de las plantas del Mburucuya.

A los 3 dias de poner los huevos nacen unas orugas muy espinosas.

Very spiny caterpillars hatch 3 days after laying the eggs.

Las orugas se alimentan de la planta aproximdamente por 20 dias.

The caterpillars feed on th eplant for approximately 20 days.

La oruga mide de 3 a 4 cm de largo. Las orugas tienen un desplazamiento lente y estan recubiertas con espinas para defenderse de sus predadores.

The caterpillar is 3 to 4 cm long. Caterpillars have a lens shift and are covered with spines to defend themselves from predators.

Esta muda 5 veces para aumentar su tamaño y convertirse en pupa, Dentro de la pupa, la oruga se transforma en mariposa adulta.

It molts 5 times to increase its size and becomes a pupa, Inside the pupa, the caterpillar turns into an adult butterfly.

Luego de romper la cascar que la recubre se queda quieta  unas horas, con la cabeza hacia arriba para secarse abriendo y cerrando sus alas.

After breaking the shell that coveres it, it stays still for a few hours, with its head up to dry itself by opening and closing its wings.
