The Great Kiskadee is a bird native of Uruguay and inhabits throughout the country.

 El benteveo es un ave actoctona de Uruguay y habita en todo el pais.

It inhabits the whole country in forests, meadows, marshes, beaches, gardens and banks of rivers and lagoons.

Habita en todo el pais en montes, praderas, bañados, playas, jardines y orillas de rios y lagunas.

Se considera residente abundante en todo Uruguay.

It is seen alone, in pairs or in small groups.

Se lo ve solitario, en parejas o en grupos pequeños.

It is omnivorous, including in its diet fish, amphibians, small reptiles, fledgeling  birds, insects and various invertebrates, as well grapes and figs among fruits

 Es omnivoro, incluyendo en su dieta peces, anfibios, pequeños reptiles, pichones de aves, insectos y diversos invertebrados asi como uvas e higos entre las frutas.

Its activity is totally diurnal.

Su actividad es totalmente diurna.

Great kiskadees are monogamous and defend their territory.

Los benteveos son monogamos y defienden su territorio.

Both sexes build a large domed nest that has a side entrance.

Ambos sexos construyen un nido abovedado que tiene una entrada en un costado. 

It is chiefly composed of grasses and small twigs.

Este es casi compuesto de pastos y pequeños gajos.

The clutch is 3 to 4 eggs.

La puesta es de 3 a 4 huevos.

The eggs hatch after 16-17 days.

Los huevos empollan despues de 16-17 dias.

Only the female incubates the eggs, the male guards the

nest while she leaves the nest to feed.

Solo la hembra incuba los huevos, el macho vigila el nido mientras ella se va del nido para alimentarse.

This alert and aggressive birds has a strong and maneuverable flight, when it uses to good effect when it feel annoyed by raptors.

Este alerta y agresiva ave tiene un vuelo potente y maniobrable, cuando este lo usa le da bueno efectos cuando es molestado por algun rapaz.

Even much larger birds are attacked by the great kiskadee.

Inluso aves mucho mas grandes son atacadas por el benteveo.

Not being appreciated as a songbird, the great kiskadee not usually kept caged and therefore has escaped the depredations of poaching for the pet trade.

Al no ser apreciado como ave cantora, el benteveo usualmente no es capturado para ser enjaulado y entonces el ha escapado a la depredacion  de la caza furtiva para el trafico de mascotas.

Also, its feeding mostly on live prey makes it extremely difficult to keep in captivity.

Tambien, al este alimentarse casi exclusivamente de prezas vivas es muy dificil mantenerlo encautiverio.

One of its most feared predators is the coral snake and it will stay away from anything that has the same color pattern as the coral snake.

Uno de sus mas temidos depredadores es la vivora del coral y este se aleja por cualquier cosa que tenga los mismos colores de la vivora del coral.
