 1) La ciudad de Artigas fue fundada el 12 de septiembre de 1852 con el nombre de San Eugenio del Cuareim, recien en 1915 paso a llamarse Artigas.

The city of Artigas was founded on September 12, 1852 with the name of San Eugenio del Cuareim, just in 1915 it was renamed Artigas.

2) La Piedra Pintada es un lugar para visitar en Artigas, es una formacion de arenisca de 19 metros de altura y 76 metros de circunferencia.. se encuentra a 17 kilometros de la ciudad en el Parque " Congreso de Abril".

La Piedra Pintada (Painted Stone) is a place to visit in Artigas, it is a sandstone formation of 19 meters high and 76 meters in cincurference. It is located 17 kilometers from the city in the "Congreso de Abril" park.

3)El Ibirapita ( Peltophorum dubium) de Artigas es un arbol que se encuentra en la ciudad de Artigas y es un retoño del arbol que se encuentra en Paraguay. El 14 de Agossto de 1915 se trajeron tres retoños por iniciativa del doctor Baltazar Brum. A este arbol por tratarse de una especie tropical se le prendian hogueras en la noche y por suerte en la primavera de 1942 este florecio.

 The Ibirapita de Artigas is a tree found in the city of Artigas and is a sapling of the tree found in Paraguay. On August 14, 1915, tree sapling were brought at the initiative of Dr. Baltazar Brum. This tree, because it is a tropical specie, was lit bonfires at night and luckily in the spring of 1942 it bloomed.

4) El departamento de Artigas se creo por ley el 1 de octubre de 1884, sobre territorio que correspondia previamente al departamento de Salto.

5)  Se Cree que el Hombre del Catalanense vivio hace aproximadamente 10 mil años a las orillas del arroyo Cataln Chico.

7) El departamento de Artigas se encuentra abrazado por tres rios, el rio Cuareim, que ejerce de limite con Brasil al norte, el rio Uruguay al oeste, que hace de frontera con Argentina y el rio Arapey Chico al sur que lo separa del departamento de Salto.

The Artigas department is embraced by three rivers, the Cuareim river, which borders Brazil to the north, the Uruguay river to the west, which borders Argentina and the Arapey Chico river to the south that separates it from the Salto department.

9) La plaza Battle antes llamada Plaza Independencia de la ciudad de Artigas es considerada con sus 2 hectareas la plaza mas grande de Uruguay.

10) Bella Union recibe su nombre a que se encuentra en la union del rio Cuareim con el rio Uruguay, en la triple frontera de Uruguay con Brasil y Argentina,

Bella Union (Beautiful Junction) gets its name from the fact that it is located at the junction of the Cuareim River with the Uruguay river, on the triple border of Uruguay with Braizl and Argentina.

11) Al norte de la ciudad de Bella Union se encuentra el Rincon de Franquia que tiene un totoal de 1150 hectareas, aqui se han registrado 54 species de arboles, 223 especies de aves, 21 especies de anfibios y 14 de reptiles, en esta zona se a registrado la Culebra arboricola ( Phylodrias olfersii) y la anaconda amarilla (Eunectes notaeus) y son los unicos registros en todo el pais.

North of the city of Bella Union is the Rincon de Fraquia that has a total of 1150 hectares, here 53 species of trees, 223 species of birds, 21 species of amphibians and 14 of reptiles have been registered, in this area. The tree snake (Phylodrias olfersii) and the yellow anaconda (Eunectes notaeus) are recorded and are the only records in the entire country.

12)  El departamento de Artigas es rico en yacimentos de amatistas y agatas, piedras semipreciosas que se tallan en los talleres de la ciudad de Artigas y se exportan fuera del pais. Las agatas uruguayas junto a las de la India estan consideradas entre las mas ricas del mundo.

The Artigas department is rich in deposits of amethysts and agates, semi-precious stones that are carved in the workshops of Artigas city and exported outside the country, Uruguayan agates, along with those from India, are considered among the richest in the world.

13) El carnaval de la ciudad de Artigas es la mayor fiesta popular del departamento, atrayendo, miles de visitantes. Esta inspirado en el carnaval de Rio de Janeiro, muy diferente al de Montevideo.

The carnival of Artigas city is the largest popular festival in the department, attracting thousands of visitors. It is inspired by the Rio de Janeiro carnival, very different from the one in Montevideo.

14)  Sobre los margenes del Rio Cuareim se asientan las ciudades de Artigas (Urguay) y Quarai (Brasil), unidas ambas por el Puente International de la Concordia. entre las dos ciudades con aproximadamente 70.000 habitantes.

The cities of Artigas (Uruguay) and Quarai (Brazil) are located on the banks of the Quareim river, both linked by the International Bridge of Concordia between the two cities with approximately 70,000 inhabitants.

15) En la Plaza Artigas se destaca la estatua del General Jose Atigas hecha en bronce, que en su base cuenta con mas de 660 plaquetas de agatas pulidas. en esta plaza en el año 1956 se enterro en ella un " Cofre de los Recuerdos" con fotos y escrituras de esos tiempos y que se abrira en el año 2056.

In Artiga Square stands out the statue of General Jose Artigas made in bronze, which at its base has more than 660 polished agate plates. In thsi square in 1956 a " Chest of Memories" with photos and writings from those times was buried in it and it will be opened in 2056.

16) El nombre del departamento es en homenaje a el maximo procer de Uruguay Jose Gervasio Artigas.

The name of the department is in homage to the greates father of Uruguay Jose Gervasio Artigas.

17) El Rio Cuareim nace en Brazil ( Rio Grande del Sur) y desemboca en el Rio Uruguay en Artigas, tiene una longitud de 350 kilometros, en Portugues se llama Rio Quarai y en guarani Cuareim significa " rio que brota de un hoyo".

The Cuareim River born in Brazil (Rio grande del Sur) and flows into the Uruguay River in Artigas, it has a length of 350 kilometers, in Portuguese it is called Rio Quarai and in Guarani Cuareim means " river that flows from a hole".

18) El Guacamayo Azul fue visto por ultima ves por el Zoologo Uruguayo Raul Vaz Ferreira a 8 km al sur de la ciudad de Bella Union en el ano 1950.
