Esta vive en todo el pais en rios, arroyos y cañadas, tambien en aguas costeras del Rio de la Plata.

Its live throughout the country in rivers, streams and ravines, also in coastal waters of River Plate.

Tiene un cuello muy largo que lo resguardan  poniendolo al costado de su caparazon.

It has a very long nek that is protected by placing it next to its shell.

Esta tortuga solo se alimenta dentro del agua.

This turle only feeds in the water.

Tienen habitos mayormente nocturnos.

They have mostly nocturnal habits.

Estas soportan la salinidad del Rio de la Plata.

These support the salinity of the River plate.

Durante el dia les gusta ponerse al sol.

During the day it like to bask in the sun.

Estas nadan bien y caminan por el lecho buscando su alimento.

Their swim well and walk along the bed looking for their food.

Cuando caminan fuera del agua lo hacen de manera rapida y con su largo cuello en forma de "S".

When it walk out of the water they do so quickly and with their long neck in "S" shape.

Estas hibernan completamente sumergidas.

Son principalmente de color castaño oscuro y en la parte ventral son de color amarillo.

It is mainly dark brown and on the ventral side it is yellow.

Las crias y jovenes tienen una caparazon con placas puntiagudas..

Hatching and young have a shell with pointed plates.

Su cabeza es larga y aplanada.

Its head is long and flattened.

Estas pueden llegar a medir hasta aproximadamente 30 cm en su caparazon.

Estas se alimentan principalmente de peces, insectos, anfibios, caracoles y incluso carroña.

La hembra antes de poner los huevos cavan un hueco en la arena o en la tierra. en un sector que no sea alcanzado por las inundaciones.

La hembra puede llegar a poner hasta 22 huevos en una puesta y ocurre en primavera.
