Es una de las especies de tortugas mas comunes en Uruguay.

It is found in rivers, streams and canyons in places with little or no water flow.

Esta tambien puede ser vistas caminando por los campos.
This can also be seen walking through the fields.

Su caparazon llega a tener una longitud de alrededor de 30 cm y es de forma ovalda.
Its shell reaches a length of about 30 cm and is oval shape.

Es Uruguay es temida por la gente que la considera venenosa.
In Uruguay is feared by people who consider it poisonous.

No existen tortugas venenosas en el mundo y si bien los adultos son agresivos y pueden morder no inoculan sustancia alguna.
