Extremely fast growing, blue passion flower producing egg shaped orange fruits with deep red, edible pulp.

Flowers are ornate, multi-colored, with a minty scent.

Los jesuitas, identificaron la flor delmburucuya con los atributos de la pasion cristiana: la corona de espinas, los tres clavos, las cinco llagas y las cuerdas con que ataron a Jesus en el Calvario. Y en los rojos irregulares frutos, los religiosos creyeron ver las gotas coaguladas de la sangre de cristo.
