The Churrinche is one of the most striking birds of Uruguay, due to its beautiful plumage and its habit of leaning on clear branches in the trees, fences or electric cables.
El Churrinche es una de las aves mas llamativas de Uruguay, debido a su hermoso plumaje y a su costumbre de apoyarse sobre ramas despejadas en los arboles, alambrado o cables electricos.

It is a fairly frequent bird in the countryside and rural areas of Uruguay, establishing itself where it can find trees, shrubs or fences that serve as sightings to hunting insects.
Es un ave bastante frequente en los campos y areas rurales de Uruguay, estabelciendose en donde encuentre arboles, arbustos o alambrados que le sirvan como avistamientos para la caza de insectos.

The plumage of the male is scarlet red in the upper part of the head and in all the lower parts being the rest of the plumage of dark brown color.
El plumaje del macho es de color rojo escarlata en la parte superior de la cabeza y en todas las partes inferiores siendo el resto del plumaje de color pardo oscuro.

The female, on the other hand, has a brown back and light underparts with a darker striped breast and a sub-caudal zone with pinkish tints.
La hembra en cambio, tiene el dorso de color pardo y las partes inferiores claras, con el pecho rayado mas oscuro y la zona subcaudal con tintes rosaceos.

This reaches a length of about 13 cm.
Este alcanza una longitud de unos 13 cm.

If feeds on insects, which it catches in flight, for which it chooses a branch from where it launches to fly when seeing an insect. After capturing it, returns to the same branch or its vicinity, doing what the ornithologists call " elastic flight".
Se alimenta de insectos, que atrapa en vuelo, por lo cual elige una rama desde donde se lanza a volar al ver un insecto. Luego de capturarlo regresa a la misma rama o sus proximidades, realizando lo que los ornitologos llaman "vuelo elastico".

It presents migratory habits arriving to Uruguay in September where it nests to return in april to the north of South America  passeswhere the period corresponding to the Uruguayan winter.
Presenta habitos migratorios llegando a Uruguay en setiembre en donde nidifica para volver en abril al norte de Sudamerica en donde pasa el periodo correspondiente al invierno uruguayo.

Nest in trees, building a nest with a cup shape, generally cleaned in a fork, in which place 3 eggs of cream or whitish color with reddish and gray spots.
Nidifica en los arboles, construyendo un nido en forma de taza, en general aseantado en una horqueta, en el cual coloca 3 huevos de color crema o blanquecino con pintas de color rojizo y gris.
