1) El primer servicio de tranvias en Uruguay llamado Tranway (transporte por riel), con coches tirados por caballos y por rieles, se inauguro en Montevideo el 25 de Mayo de 1868.
The first service of tram in Uruguay, called tramway (rail transport), with horses-draw cars and for rails, was inaugurated in Montevideo on May 25, 1868.
2) Se inauguro bajo la presidencia De Lorenzo Battle.

3) El Gobierno habia concedido dos lineas: La de la Villa Del Cerro y Paso Molino y la de la Union y Maronas.
The goverment had granted two lines: That of Villa del Cerro and Paso Molino y that of Union and Maronas.
4) Finalmente el primer viaje lo inicio la linea que salia de la calle De Los andes ( hoy en dia Andes) y iba por la calle 18 de julio hasta el nacimiento del antiguo camino Real a Maldonado. (actualmente 8 de Octubre) y terminaba en la Curva de Maronas.
Finally the first trip did the line that living of the street De Los Andes (today Andes) and going for the street July 18 until the born of old Camino Real a Maldonado ( Today 8 of Octubre) and finish in Curva de Maronas.
5) En la plaza de Frutos ( actualmente 8 de Octubre y 20 de Febrero) se construyo la primera estacion de tranvias en el Uruguay, en la cual se construyeron galpones para guardar los trenes, las caballerizas y talleres
In the Frutos Square ( Today 8 of Octubre and 20 of February) the first station was built in Uruguay, in which sheds were built to keep the trains, stables and workshops.
6) El servicio regular comenzo el 1 de junio de 1868.

7) Hacia cinco viajes por la manana y seis en la tarde, con cuatro vagones de primera clase, seis de segunda y cinco de carga.

8) En los primeros dias hubo algunos accidentes con los peatones y debido a las protestas de la poblacion se comenzo a usar el cornetin que avisaba la presencia del tranvia.
In the early days there were some accidents with pedestrians and due to the protest of the population, they began using the cornet that warned the presence of the tram.
9)Para la seguridad de los pasajeros se dispuso que un guardia armado viajara en el pescante, junto al mayoral.

10) Era comun que fueran dos jinetes a caballos para ayudar a los vehiculos en los tramos dificiles, como podia ser en barriales o subidas.

11) Recien en 1870 se completo la linea al Cerro.

16) En su apogeo llego a tener 511 coches y cerca de 4mil caballos.

17) Llegaron a funcionar en la ciudad trece empresas de tranvias de traccion a sangre. La extension de las lineas facilito el crecimiento de la ciudad determinando la aparicion de nuevos barrios, creando lazos directos y permanentes con el centro.

.18) El 31 de diciembre de 1925 el ultimo tranvia a caballos salio del centro y termino su recorrido en Agraciada y Zufriategui, cerrando un ciclo de 56 anos.
