11)  En temporada invernal, la tararira experimenta un aletargamiento pasando los frios enterrada en el  lecho barroso o entre la vegetacion. Esta caracteristica hace que se presente delgada y voraz a mediados de la primavera, con mayor peso en verano para luego a principios de otono mostrarse pesada y sumamente voraz, debido a la necesidad instintiva de acumular reservas para el proximo invierno.

12) En el mes de noviembre ya se observan los ejemplares de ambos sexos en pleno desarrollo sexual. En la epoca de puesta la  tararira busca lugares con poca agua proximos a la costa, entre el tupido juncal y con la ayuda de las aletas cava un hoyo de unos 15-20 centimetros de profundidad y 30 centimetros de diametro. Construido el nido se produce el desove y los reproductores permanecen en el lugar mientras se produce la evolucion de las ovas y hasta que las crias comienzan a moverse. Al parecer los progenitores cuidan el nido agitando sus aletas provocando corrientes que oxigenan el agua. La hembra pude depositar entre 700 y 3.000 huevos en cada puesta, cada 15 dias.
